Sunday Gras at St. Mark’s

Sunday Gras at St. Mark’s

The Last Sunday after the Epiphany is typically a joyful service which is contrasted by the somber tones of Ash Wednesday three days later. At the service, we heard the readings for the Feast of the Transfiguration, in which both Moses and Jesus are transformed before their astonished followers’ eyes.

Music for the day was provided by The Rhythm Brokers, fronted by our treasurer, Rich Kearney, with some vocal augmentation by men from the choir.

Meanwhile, our Church School students were also exploring the day’s lesson from the Hebrew scriptures. When Moses descended Mount Sinai after receiving the Ten Commandments, his face radiated with the glory of God, causing the Israelites to fear him, so he covered his face with a veil until he spoke with God again, and then removed it before addressing the people.

After the service, the 100th Anniversary Committee hosted a special coffee hour with cupcakes and other treats in the colors of Mardi Gras: purple (justice), green (faith), and gold (power). There were beads and other treats adding to the fun. In addition, the committee is selling commemorative tote bags with goodies inside.

And finally, in the corner our hydroponic garden is bursting with fresh romaine lettuce, which “the H team” will bring to the food pantry at Christ Church across town.

A busy and joyful day at St. Mark’s!
