Requiescat in Pace: Jennifer D. Caraway Tomlinson
In our shared grief, we come together to celebrate the beautiful life of Jennifer D. Caraway Tomlinson, who suddenly departed this world on December 29, 2023. A beloved daughter, wife, mother, friend and colleague, Jennifer touched all who knew her with grace, kindness, and unwavering love.
Born on April 8, 1972 in New York City, Jennifer brought joy into the lives of those around her from the very beginning. Her mother Jackie remembers Jennifer as a popular child who loved to read and be read to. She had an incredible collection of stuffed animals that lined the shelves of her bedroom. Though she didn’t consider herself a leader, most would agree that Jennifer’s leadership was marked by her authentic self and her ability to be true to herself. She created a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of sharing in her too short journey.
Jennifer’s life was filled with purpose. In her pre-teen years, two of Jennifer’s major activities involved Girl Scouts and church. She attended St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Teaneck where she was active in the teen group and served as an acolyte. Her service earned her the title of acolyte of the year. It was Jennifer’s many talents that enriched the lives of those who were fortunate enough to witness her creative spirit in action.
After graduating from Teaneck High School in 1990, Jennifer attended Florida A&M University (FAMU) earning a BS degree in Psychology in 1995. It was no surprise to those who knew her that she chose to work in customer service. Her abilities to provide the needed support to the clients and customers of various businesses became her lifelong passion. From Enterprise Rent A Car where she served as Assistant Manager to Chase Merchant Services and Liberty Travel, Jennifer simply made life easier for the customers who sought her aid. At her death, Jennifer worked in customer service for New Jersey Imaging Network.
Jennifer was a loving wife to Amra whom she wed in November of 2004. They welcomed their twins, Ava and Alex, in 2007. Jennifer was a fierce advocate for her incredible children. She was known as an active participant in the their lives serving on the PTA of their school and providing anything that was needed in their after-school activities.
Jennifer is survived by her husband Amra, her children Ava and Alex, her mother Jacqueline McLeod, her mother-in-law Cleo Tomlinson, brother-in-law Aton Tomlinson and sister-in-law Nicole Tomlinson, nephews Tyler and Jaden, cousins Michael, Jackie, Danielle and Bernie as well as godmothers Cynthia Archer, Sandria Doakes, and godparents Wilbert Lee (Butch) and Nathaniel Simmons and a multitude of family and friends who mourn her loss. She was pre-deceased by her father William Caraway and step-father the Rev. Dr. Lonnie McLeod.
May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may we find solace in the legacy of compassion and joy Jennifer leaves behind.
