Requiescat in Pace: Doris Sylvia Mardirosian

Presenting at the ECW World of Women Awards 2011

St. Mark’s, the Diocese of Newark and the wider Episcopal Church have lost one of its most dedicated servant-leaders. Doris Mardirosian, who put a lifetime of devoted energy to local and churchwide causes, entered into greater glory on October 30th, 2023. She was 90.

Beloved wife of the late Marcus Mardirosian, Sr. Devoted mother of Marcia Mardirosian, Marcus Mardirosian, Jr., and Debra Marino & her husband Anthony. Loving grandmother to Brian Marino, and Stephanie Marino-Cundari & her husband Nick. She was predeceased by her brother Ed Gulamerian and sister Alice Voskian.

Doris was a longtime faithful member of St. Mark’s. She served as a eucharistic minister, as well as a member of the vestry, women’s guild, and as director of the altar guild. Her volunteer work reached beyond our doors, however. She was the principal coordinator for the annual North Porch baby shower benefiting local new mothers in need, for which she received an award for 22 years of faithful service.

On the diocesan level, she was a longtime member of the Episcopal Church Women and served as its president. She also contributed her time and energy to the diocesan annual convention for many years, especially as chair of the Arrangements Committee. Doris attended many annual diocesan conventions and triennial General Convention of the Episcopal Church, traveling to places such as Colorado, California, Indiana, and Ohio. In 2011, the Diocese of Newark honored Doris with the David P. Hegg II Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her faithful work for both her home parish and the diocese.
