George Wesner, Director of Music
George Wesner has been the Director of Music and Organist at St. Mark’s since 2014. While at St. Mark’s he along with the choir and guest musicians have produced On Broadway (for the roof), Singing for the Drain, Too Darn Hot Cabaret, and Too Cool, helping the congregation to raise over $150,000 for capital projects.
During his tenure he brought the “Summermusic Series” featuring performing artists from the greater New York area to add to our summer Sunday worship experiences. In addition to providing choral/orchestral programs, he produced The Living Last Supper” for Holy Week 2019. During the Pandemic he produced three video “TV” specials for the congregation: Saturday Night Semi-Live, A Family Christmas Special, and Easter at St. Marks.
George has been the principal organist at Radio City Music Hall in New York City for over 40 years and has played over 6,000 shows for more than 28 million people. He has appeared with the American Symphony Orchestra and world premiere film events for Disney, Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox, the Grammy Awards and PBS TV.
George appeared in the Top of the Rock documentary celebrating the diamond anniversary of Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall. He has appeared as a solo artist for the Stratford Summer Music Festival in Ontario, CA. George has made four appearances at the prestigious Kirk Organ concert series in Dunedin, FL. He was privileged to play on the inaugural program for the largest pipe-electronic-digital organ at the Filadelphia Church in Stockholm, Sweden. His concert work has taken him to over 20 states and Nassau, in the Bahamas.
As a church musician he has served seven congregations in the northeast and celebrated 50 years of music ministry in 2021. He is the former Dept. Chair of Music and the Arts at Parsippany High School, Parsippany, NJ; he has served as Adjunct Professor of organ at the Kings College in Briarcliff Manor, NY and as a featured artist on Organtime for WFME FM: 94.7
George holds a M.A. in Conducting and Administration from the College of New Jersey; a B.A. in Music Education with a concentration in organ studying with Dr. Grady Wilson at New Jersey City
University, and has studied piano with Jean Graham at the Manhattan School of Music. He has also attended Westminster Choir College and Westchester University in PA.
A life-long resident of New Jersey, George lives in Harrison most of the year and is spending more time in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, during the winter months.
