Children and Youth

Our young people are the foundation and future of all that we do at St. Mark’s. We strive to help them encounter Christ at their level and find their own place in the church as they grow.

We are pleased offer child care for babies through pre-K during our main (10:00 a.m.) service on Sundays; young parents can relax and focus knowing their little one is in safe hands nearby, or they are welcome to stay in church.

Our growing church school for ages 5-12 generally meets concurrent with this service three Sundays out of four during the school year. Participants hear Bible stories and create art to bring these concepts to life.

Our young leaders (age 13-plus) participate in service projects and take on active roles within the life of the church, including as acolytes (altar servers). Confirmation, the rite of making an adult commitment to the faith, typically occurs at this stage.

Once a month we have Youth Sunday where the church school children stay in the sanctuary with us and assist the ushers and greeters, and the high school students read the lessons. In this way, the roles and patterns of worship become familiar to them as they grow.

Our Martin Luther King, Jr., scholarship program is an opportunity for graduating high school seniors to earn money for college by active engagement in congregational life, choosing several projects they would like to pursue. Each January we hold a brunch and presentation to support this ministry.
