“Sunday Gras”
On the Last Sunday after the Epiphany, St. Mark’s added a festive touch to our last gathering before Lent. On a typical year our youth group would be serving up Shrove Tuesday pancakes in Carroll Hall on Tuesday night, but times being what they are, we compromised with a lively Sunday coffee hour celebration with beads, masks, and, well… more masks. We distanced, socially, with a background of Cajun, Dixieland and zydeco music.
Mardi Gras (translated “fat Tuesday”) has Christian roots: it was an occasion to use up rich foods before the more austere diet appropriate for Lent.
Thanks to Yanna Huls who did a beautiful job with the decorations, to all who contributed yummy food to the occasion.
