CABARET Raises Nearly $7,000
Evening of Music & Desserts Will Help Fund Rectory Roof
Carroll Hall was a glittering packed house on Saturday night as St. Markers turned out in force to produce and enjoy an evening of beautiful music, delicious desserts, warm memories and laughs in an effort to fund the replacement of our rectory roof. At press time the total “take” from ticket sales, the silent auction and other contributions was approaching $7,000, and we are optimistic that additional gifts will come in.
In addition to musical performances by members of our choir, the audience got into the act with Karaoke Roulette. We also had several video presentations, one from the very first St. Mark’s Cabaret, nearly 100 years ago!
The brain-child of Director of Music George Wesner, Cabaret follows in the footsteps of prior productions that have become a St. Mark’s tradition. Previous shows included Singing for the Drain, which financed a mitigation system for our flood-prone basement, and Too Darn Hot! That show enabled us to air-condition Carroll Hall, our main social and fellowship space that is also used by outreach efforts like Math Adventures & Word Play, a Saturday tutoring program, and the Lion’s Den, our monthly open mic night and coffeehouse, as well as a number of community and recovery groups.
During the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, we kept our spirits up with online productions that were live-streamed on Zoom: Saturday Night Semi-Live and our St. Mark’s Christmas Spectacular, which surpassed 2,000 views on our YouTube channel.
